The update released for all PlayStation 5 users without warning today, bringing a handful of new goodies, a new area, and even a few new missions to complete. It’s enough content to keep you busy for around an hour or so longer, but considering Astro’s Playroom came free for anyone who owns a PS5, it’s more than enough reason to celebrate. PlayStation and Team Asobi have dropped a surprise update for Astro’s Playroom in celebration of the reveal of its full-fledged Astro title, Astro Bot. Maybe the most impressive piece of the PlayStation 5 hardware is its new controller, but it’ll only be as good as the games that support it. Transcending its role as an introduction to the PS5’s features, Astro’s Playroom is a quick and delightful celebration of PlayStation’s history.

Finally, as g28 as I adore Astro’s cute nature and attention to detail with its celebration of PlayStation nostalgia, I would have loved a more considered narrative on top of all that. I mentioned this already in my Astro’s Playroom preview, but it really can’t be overstated how innovative the DualSense PS5 Controller is and just how effective Astro’s Playroom is at showing it off.
It didn’t change the core of the game, but it made the overall experience better. Coin collection in Astro Playroom is straightforward but requires attention to detail. The latest PlayStation mascot showed off its capabilities while being a fun little game all on its own. I had a bunch of games and PS+ when I got my PS5 but I still played through 100% of this and got the Platinum before I even got to any of them. This guide shows the location of the Special bot in the Memory Meadow area in Astro’s Playroom. This was the fourth and final hidden bot that the developers have been sequentially releasing before the release of the Astro Bot game on 6th Sep 2024. There are small animals such as crabs, rabbits, and toucans that can be found throughout Astro’s Playroom.
Two of these levels involve regular platforming whereas the other two involve a special power-up suit which makes use of the DualSense controller’s capabilities. Another example is the ball suit in which the player must swipe the touchpad to guide the ball. If Astro Bot falls or gets defeated, the level will restart from the latest checkpoint cleared. For starters, the load times are super-fast thanks to the SSD so getting into and out of levels never has you waiting. Even better is that if you find that you missed some collectibles and want to go back to get them then pulling up the Activities menu will give you options to instantly jump to where you need to go.

As a result, it is a good thing that Astro’s Playroom comes with protection from it. Essentially, if Astro seems as though he is going to enter into a fall that will kill him, he will stop at the very edge. Players who make a bad jump at a bad time will find that it is perfectly possible for them to die from it. As such, if they are moving over a very narrow stretch of terrain, it might be best for them to stay ground-bound for the duration.
